In a couple days, it’s as if the sun stands still and we find ourselves participating in the age old drama of the rebirth of the light. The Earth's axis appears to pause and change direction, in what is the darkest day of the year and the first 'official' day of winter.
Yes, it’s already been cold, dark and wet for months already, and may seem like a cruel joke that we’re only starting winter today. Yes, it may be the perfect excuse to give up and hibernate in the bosom of Netflix until spring. But even if the news of the 1st day of winter is bitter news, truly it’s a good sign. Today heralds the return of longer days, and the promise of warmth and light to come.
A ray of light (literally) in the darkest days.
We’re on the way.
Nowadays we look forward to winter solstice as the announcement of longer days and eventually warmer weather, so we can play and enjoy the our time in the sun. But, imagine, long long ago, depending where you lived in the world, reaching this point could have meant survival itself. What if the return of the light still has ancient associations deep at play in the primordial cells of our ancestral mind and bodies with the return of something more: Survival, prosperity to come, inspiration, joy and vibrant peace, even spiritual illumination?
If we are to harmonize with this time of year and the spirit of winter solstice: Now is the time to rest in the stillness of the dark. Now we plunge into the rich black soil and discover the light waiting to be born in us — the deeper yearnings and inspirations we can only see clearly in stillness. It is a time of reflection. (A reflection that naturally goes well with a warm drink and the fire going of course.)
Now we can begin to change the axis of our life to grow in this new light and new inspiration, like the Earth does; knowing the sun is building in presence again, and we are in the patient work of opening ourselves to it.
We’re at a turning point.
In the depths of the darkest day, we raise a warm Zensations toast to all of you, growing in new light!
The dark days are no time to be alone. So we are here celebrating the return of the light with you the way we know how!
