- Traditionally speaking, Cordyceps was used by emperors to tonify kidney yin and yang, and was prized as an age-defying elixir.
A long, long, time ago, high up on what’s called ‘the roof of the world’, a group of Tibetan herders noticed the vitality levels of their yaks would spike during spring and summer grazing season when there was a high availability of the “strange grasses”. Their animals increased in stamina, better overall health, enhanced vitality, playfulness and increased in reproductive activity and libido when they ate these “grasses”. Obviously, the herders liked what they saw and, naturally they had ideas. Excitedly consuming the “grasses” themselves the herders experienced similar benefits. A new power and excitement surged into their life. The “strange grasses” worked. And no doubt, neighbouring husbands and wives took note and wanted some of that energy, vitality and libido enhancement too.
Turns out, those “strange grasses” weren’t grasses at all but what is now famously known as Cordyceps mushroom. The powerful medicinal and overall enhancing abilities of Cordyceps were first documented in the 15th century and, over time, they rose to have a very prominent place in the Tibetan and Chinese Medical system; where they were given status as one of “The Three Great Tonics” (三大补品) of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Those livestock and people on the high Tibetan plateau were onto something the modern medical world is now catching up to.
Buckle up! Fast forward to 2026 and there is a new kid in town — CordyFuel™. By blending ancient wisdom and modern science, a group of highly focused and dedicated Canadian mushroom growers produced the award-winning Cordyceps militaris (CM) — known as CordyFuel™ that is standardized for cordycepin content. Cordycepin — the key active compound in CM — is known for helping with energy support, immune modulation, anti-inflammatory & antioxidant action and more. But this is no “traditional” extract, because alcohol and water extraction methods miss out on the full array of innate compounds / benefits of the myco-fermented super food matrix (MFM™) the mushrooms produce through their lifecycle. Research now clearly shows that mushrooms grown using the solid-state fermentation process have a great deal to offer in addition to just the water and alcohol soluble compounds. The mycelium of the mushroom produces and excretes extra-cellular compounds such as unique enzymes, polysaccharides, terpenoids, diterpenes, phenolic and flavonoid compounds (antioxidants), antimicrobial substances & alkaloids and prebiotic fibers, to name a few. All of those compounds have positive effects.
Purica has always offered mushrooms grown using the solid-state fermentation process, but Purica is now very excited to introduce the world to the next generation of medicinal mushrooms. Whether you’re training for your first 5k or trying to keep up with the grandkids, Purica Power Cordyceps is here to help.
