It’s that time of year parents hide coloured (and sometimes chocolate) eggs for their kids to find.
We aren’t going to look into the complicated and overlapped history of the easter egg, easter symbolism or its traditions here but, as a symbol in itself, the egg is a potent one:
The shell — both fragile and protective, both tomb and womb — containing a seed of spiritual life sealed within along with the prima materia — the building blocks of life — needed to support a new birth from seemingly nothing. And within this shell the great work happens until the mystery becomes revelation and new life bursts forth and begins. Life coming out of apparent stillness and nothingness. A fertile symbol of health and the miracle of rebirth if there ever was one; which is of course the theme of Easter and springtime throughout countless cultures. Spring, the season of nature’s own rebirth, where we feel those tantalizing (and sometimes frustrating) energies of new life surging towards its fulfillment in the summer months.
On a physiological level, it might be better for the kids, and parents, to just eat the eggs, and follow it up with a piece of chocolate or enjoy a cacao filled drink on the side.
The nutritive power of eggs is no joke. In fact, there’s a good chance that, if it weren’t for eggs, we may not be here because, odds are, a lot our ancestors ate and survived on a lot of eggs.
The vitamin and mineral profile of eggs, their ability to satiate hunger, their versatility, even their benefits for eye health and, of course, being a complete protein, puts them as a top super food.
But not all vegetarians can or want to eat eggs. Spiritually speaking, some systems claim there are steps along the path when eggs are not beneficial to the flow of certain pranas and spiritual currents within us. A vegan diet doesn’t include eggs at all and many people have allergies to eggs. (Which is often more of an allergy to the unhealthy feed given to the chickens, or the nutritional changes that take place when chickens are raised in unnatural conditions like cages, than to the eggs themselves.)
Seeking A Vegan Friendly Protein
Proteins are the building blocks of life in the physical body. High quality protein sets the stage for a new birth of the bone, muscles and tissues, with the primal elements needed for the healthy functioning of our bodies. (It’s even essential for heart health.) And since this time of year is about new birth — both culturally, in the spiritual traditions, and in nature itself — it’s a good time to fortify ourselves with the building blocks of material life.
Seeking ways to get enough protein as a vegan, without over reliance on nuts or grains, has never been easy. That’s where supplementation with a high quality and complete (meaning containing all the essential amino acids) vegan protein source comes in handy. But, in the same way not all eggs are made equal, not all protein supplements and powders are either. Lower quality protein is simply not absorbable by the body. So it may seem like we’re getting a deal on protein, the protein packaging and nutrition label may say all the right things and even be ‘enhanced’ with all the impressive sounding current superfood fads but, if it’s made with lower quality ingredients, we’re actually getting very little out of it. And there’s no way to know unless you’ve gone to the factory yourself where the protein is made and talked to the people in charge. (Trust us on that one, we’ve been there, it’s a little shocking). It’s like thinking we’re getting a great deal on a car, only to find out, it has no way to distribute the fuel and drive the thing. On top of that a good Protein supplement also needs certain enzymes to be properly digested without the famous protein bloat.
Where to find a properly balanced, highly absorbable, quality Complete Vegan protein that’s not crushingly sweet, doesn’t bloat you, mixes perfectly with out clumping, and comes without a questionably large list of unnecessary ingredients and preservatives, while being enjoyable and versatile, has been a legendary exploration in and of itself. As legendary a quest as to where the easter bunny actually gets all those eggs from in the first place!

Those are just some of the reasons we created our Vegan Power Protein — to fill that gap we found in high quality, absorbable protein with all the necessary digestive enzymes. Simple, potent, digestible, fuel. Add in Chaga mushroom for its anti-oxidative and, many report, calming properties, to reduce the negative effects of stress on the body-mind; or Lion’s Mane mushroom for cognitive support, brain power and memory, and you have all you need and more in a complete and powerful vegan protein package.
Protein powder, on its own, doesn’t have the nutritive density of something like eggs but, as a supplement, it can be worked in nearly everywhere. Weave our Vegan Protein Powder into a healthy vegetable filled meal and you have the full package complete with medicinal mushroom magic for the body and mind. (And if you do enjoy eggs, this is a great way to add even more protein to your day, pre or post work out, to stave off a little afternoon or evening hunger.)
